Managing with Editors in Eclipse..

Filed under: Tools — Randyan @ 8:21 am

Most of the time you might end up with too many source files opened in the editors, which makes slightly difficult to select the file you want to work on at particular point of time. Though Eclipse allows you to keep open many number of files, I don’t think it is worth while to keep opened more than 8-10 files at any time. Here are some tips to manage it better:

- When more than 8-10 files are opened, the other files you can either choose to open by selecting the required file after clicking on the >> (which indicates hidden files), or by using Ctrl+Shift+E which shows all the files opened to select the file required. In the same time(or may be in lesser time), you can use Ctrl+Shift+R to open the required file you want.

- So having opened more than 8-10 files it not of any great help. To close editors automatically, after certain number of files are opened, go to the Preferences -> General -> Editors screen, and check on ‘Close Editors Automatically’. And in the same screen, you can configure other options related to this feature.
